We Are Open!
As you may know we had a successful kickstarter campaign to ensure we could open. We are excited to announce that, after months of planning, construction and equipment setup, we are officially open!
As of today, 5/20/2017, we are just shy of rolling out our morning takeout service but are working to have it ready this week. To see our hours visit our “Hours and contact” page in the menu. As of now doors open at 11 but when we roll out takeout service, which will include NYC bagels from Davidovich Bakery, the doors open from 7-9 for takeout and then re-open at 11. This page will update accordingly as we set this up, however, for now, you can subscribe to our newsletter, located at the bottom of this page, for more updates.
So, with that said…
Hello, and welcome to House Rules Cafe, Hudson NY’s Board Game Cafe!
We have a carefully curated collection of board games, for all ages, experience levels, and preferences. Everything from the best family games to strategy-heavy, multi-hour epics. Our tables are the perfect size, we have a comfy corner for lounging and playing Fluxx or Apples to Apples over coffee or wine, and we have Meg’s Corner, especially designed for the little ones with games and toys on a soft foam mat.
Our menu is American comfort food – hot and cold sandwiches, sides that surprise, and healthy options that are child-tested and adult-friendly. We are proud to offer coffee from Thrive Farmers, a unique coffee company that works directly with farmers in Central and South America in order to offer a variety of blends and single-origin coffees. Our tea is from Nepal Tea LLC, a socially conscious company from New Jersey that imports and sells Nepalese teas while supporting the communities in which they’re grown. We are currently applying for a beer & wine license, when that is issued by the NYS SLA, we will also have a list of affordable and delicious artisanal wines by the glass, and a small selection of mostly local craft beers and ciders by the bottle.
We’re doing something a little different with our games: instead of buying every game to come to market, we’re carefully choosing games that we’ve played and enjoyed. It’s the same idea as a gallery, or a boutique; curate the selection so we can best recommend the game to fit your desires and needs. We’re aware of accessibility issues with certain games, and happy to help find workarounds!
In the mornings (7-9AM), we are open for takeout only, with a selection of New York City style bagels, and our pour-over coffees and looseleaf teas. We open for the day at 11AM, and are here all afternoon and evening for you to put down the technology and go analogue for a while.
We have regular gaming events, panel discussions, and demos, check our calendar for upcoming.
